Want to meet the real GOATs? 🐐 This is the final weekend for our natural landscape heroes to be on site at Wilton House Museum.
These hardworking goats help manage invasive plants and promote healthy habitats along the James River—a unique, eco-friendly solution supporting our mission of preservation and protecting local wildlife and water quality.
“Working alongside our goat crew is always the highlight of my week,” says Executive Director, Amanda Keller. “They bring so much energy—and so many smiles—to our conservation efforts!”

WONDERFUL TAVERN SIGN

Sign for the Black Horse, circa 1771. Connecticut Historical Society

Between 1750 and 1850 more than 50,000 inn and tavern signs were produced by American painters, creating a distinct visual language and offering a glimpse into tavern life, travel, and patriotic ideals. Only a fraction of these signs survive. The Connecticut Historical Society’s collection numbering more than 60 signs is by far the largest in the country and is on display in a permanent exhibit.

Very similar to a cross found at NSCDA-FL Archaeological dig.

A 370-year-old Spanish cross has been found in a St. Mary’s archaeological dig. Did Native Americans help bring it there?
