Meet the Branch bandana, our new favorite accessory.

Designed for The Branch by Richmond artist Katie Pelikan of Pelikan Print Co., the bandana draws inspiration from American folk art and the romance of the West. It features a cowgirl riding beneath a starry desert sky, with our signature B tucked into the border.

Is The Branch haunted?

We spent last night trying to find out.

A team from the Center for Paranormal Research and Investigation (CPRI) filled the house with cameras and sensors and turned a tent in the garden into command central. Every so often, we left the monitors behind and went inside to listen, while The Weird World Adventures of Malorie Mackey captured it all for a 2027 episode of “The Weird World Adventures of Malorie Mackey.”

Could the spirit of Beulah Branch be opening windows? Is there a ghost pig lurking in the sub-basement? We stayed up well past midnight, watching the monitors and listening for bumps in the night.

What did we find? CPRI is reviewing the data. In the meantime, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the windows.

Next up in our favorite gift shop finds: a handbag that makes the case for carrying less.

DREEA, short for Andrea, creates sculptural bags designed to hold precisely the essentials. Each one is hand-cut and stitched in the U.S., with balance built into its design. If the contents are uneven, the bag leans with them.

It’s a clever little reminder that less really is more – and that the things we carry can have a point of view, too.

Some objects stop being useful before they stop having meaning.

Becoming explores what happens next.

Opening September 24, Becoming brings together the work of Thornton Dial, one of the most significant self-taught American artists of the 20th century, with a contemporary response by Sanford Kogan.

Exhibited together for the first time, Dial and Kogan both find meaning in what others leave behind. Dial transformed found materials into complex works exploring history, race, struggle and life in the American South. Kogan repurposes industrial and functional objects into sculptural compositions, often incorporating light into the work.

Much of the Dial work in Becoming comes from a private collection, including a piece that has never before been publicly exhibited.

Join us September 24 for the opening. Branch members receive complimentary early access from 5–6 PM, followed by the public reception from 6–8 PM. Public admission is $10 and includes beer and wine. Tickets open in early September.

Becoming is curated by Ezie Junkala and Michelle LaRose & is on view September 24 - December 16, 2026.

A new way to experience Americana is coming to The Branch.

Beginning Thursday, August 27, groups can schedule adaptive tours shaped around their needs and interests. Open to visitors of all ages and abilities, tours include interactive components inspired by the exhibition, a what-to-expect guide, and The Branch’s new sensory kit.

And because no Branch experience would be complete without Cudi, the kit even includes a weighted plush inspired by our beloved “Opurrations Director.”

Live at The Branch returns Wednesday, September 16 from 6–8pm with Tre. Charles

Blending alternative and indie soul, Tre. Charles pairs warm, expressive vocals with honest songwriting that invites listeners into his world. Raised on the East Coast and shaped by a childhood spent moving from city to city, his music reflects the places, people, and experiences that have shaped him along the way.

Tickets include wine, beer and light bites. Free parking is available in the First Baptist Church parking lot next to The Branch.

A little Western spirit has made its way to the Branch ✨

Founded by Texas native Chandler Holloway, Sable Western brings the traditions of the American West into the present through handcrafted pieces made to be worn and loved.

In the Branch Gift Shop, you’ll find SABLE’s upcycled, military-inspired shirts, each reworked with its own details and character. Every shirt is bespoke, so no two are alike.

Custom leather fringe capes are also available to order through the shop.

This Thursday, 8/13 from 6–9 PM, writer + educator Ty Phelps joins us for our next Maker’s Studio, Breaking the Lines: Poetry Through Design.

Ty will explore how line breaks and space on the page can change the way a poem reads, then help you put those ideas on paper.

Leave with a poem of your own. Maybe a new writing friend, too.

No poetry experience required. Just curiosity.

The women in Veronica Jackson’s BLACKTIVISTS series helped shape America.

Most of us were never taught their names.

BLACKTIVISTS honors thirteen Black women whose advocacy helped transform this country at a time when their own standing, as Black women, offered them little protection. Many were born during slavery. Some were born into it. Their circumstances did not stop the work. In many cases, they became the reason for it.

Printed in black ink on black paper, the portraits reveal themselves only when light catches the surface.

Visibility is part of the work.

On Thursday, August 27 at 6pm, hear Veronica Jackson share the stories behind BLACKTIVISTS in conversation with the The Washington Post’s Greg Schneider. Together, they’ll explore Jackson’s artistic practice, the women who inspired the series, and why BLACKTIVISTS continues to resonate as Americans reconsider whose stories are remembered and whose are forgotten.
