Salon Sessions is a new conversation series at The Branch. It’s a space for civic dialogue about how we live and care for one another.
The series honors Mary-Cooke Branch Munford, who organized the Saturday Afternoon Club, a place where Richmond women could gather and exchange ideas. Munford encouraged its members to look beyond traditional cultural subjects and engage with the civic issues affecting their community. We’re carrying that spirit forward by inviting people doing important work in our community into conversation.
On Sunday, October 18, from 2:30–4 PM, we welcome Becca Amos and Meredith Wheeler, co-founders of The People's Flower School. They’ll discuss access to nature as a human necessity and how therapeutic floral design can support our wellbeing.
People in jails and prisons are often cut off from plants and the outdoors. Inside Chesterfield County Jail, The People’s Flower School offers Floral Therapy through HARP (Helping Addicts Recover Progressively). There, flowers support wellbeing and build practical skills while reconnecting participants with nature and their own histories.
