This Black History Month, we’re honoring the power of exhibitions to surface stories that were too often overlooked or intentionally erased. Explorers Studio's exhibit work is rooted in collaboration, research, and deep respect for the communities whose histories we help bring to light—from enslaved and marginalized communities, to artists, innovators, and culture-shapers whose narratives deserve center stage.

These projects remind us that history is not fixed—it’s uncovered, expanded, and made richer when more voices are heard. We’re proud to partner with museums and cultural institutions to help tell these vital stories—this month and always.

It was an honor and a privilege as always to work with the talented team at VMHC to bring the stories told in Un/Bound to life—check it out!

The VMHC is open all weekend! Visit us daily from 10-5 to view special exhibitions on display, including "Un/Bound: Free Black Virginians, 1619-1865."

Through powerful objects and first-person accounts, Un/Bound explores the lives of free Black Virginians from the arrival of the first captive Africans in 1619 to the abolition of slavery in 1865. Learn about how Virginia’s people of color achieved their freedom, established communities, and persevered within a legal system that recognized them as free but not equal.

Un/Bound is presented by the Commonwealth of Virginia and Google Data Centers.

We're attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony for our work at James A. Thomas Hall at UNCP today!

This newly opened school of business features offices, classrooms, a business career center, a 300-seat auditorium, an interactive market-style trading room, student discussion areas and an eatery.

Explorers Studio has been on a bit of a social media hiatus this past year—and it's not because we weren't busy! It was a great 2019 working with Wilton House Museum, Virginia Capitol Foundation, The Chrysler Museum of Art, Longwood University, William & Mary, James River Association, and Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. AND the largest project of all was the addition of our tiny useless intern, Wade! Looking forward to an action packed 2020!
