New docent Kelly Herman partners with her aunt Pat Kubesh on alternating Saturdays at the Rhinelander Historical Society Museum. Kelly says she has walked a lot around Rhinelander and always wondered what life was like in the early days. She loves learning more each visit and is amazed at the community effort to renovate the 1890’s house plus organize all the donated items. She thinks the military room and real Gene Shepard memorabilia are particularly interesting. Pat chose the staircase for their pose because she loves all the old wood and door trims in the house; plus a bonus, Pat has a wealth of stories to tell about growing up in Rhinelander!

New docent, Donna Polarski, is exuberant learning Rhinelander history as she shares information about the museum house and our local community. Donna says Rhinelander is a very welcoming city, and she enjoys telling how it has become what it is today. She is always observing something new and loves hearing stories from guests. Donna is volunteering Wednesdays, alternating with our other rookie docent, Mike Kuczek. Thanks Donna and Mike for joining the staff!

A display of memories from Rhinelander Woman’s Club, founded in 1898 and active yet today, has been added to the museum. Besides a history of their many accomplishments, the club shares a 1949 news article showing own very own June Walkowski Thiel receiving the Wisconsin Federation of Women’s Clubs Health Scholarship. June had a nursing career before helping to renovate the museum in the 1990s with her husband John and like-minded community leaders.

Meet a new docent at the museum, Michael Kuczek, originally from the UP. Mike chose to smile next to the old wood stove in the kitchen and fondly recalled a couple living in the backwoods of the Keweenaw Peninsula in the 1980s, who cooked solely on an antique Montgomery Wards wood stove. Stop Wednesdays to meet Mike!
