Chalk art update! Our visiting artist, the Chalk Gnome, will not be here today, but has rescheduled her visit to Friday June 26. However, we will have chalk on hand today for free lance artists! Come decorate the street anyway, from 11 - 2.

And so it begins, this is a colorized version of a B&W Polaroid print of the beginning of the swimming pool construction during the mid 1960s. The payloader is scrapping off the topsoil. Does anyone remember those trees? There was a planting of them by the playground too, they weren't much of a tree, they grew straight up and did not provide much shade. Some kind of cottonwood or popular, I don't have my tree book close to sound intelligent.

It looks like NSP is doing some maintenance work on the light at the liquor store corner. There is a neat Grain Belt sign hanging on the north side of the building, I do not remember that. This is an odd picture in a box at the museum, my guess is mid-1960s by the pictures it was with. I colorized it and the original is included.

(As with most AI creations, something is changed or left out. In this case the street sign got left out. I tried to put it back on, but then things really began to get messed up. I will leave it alone for now.)

There must be hundreds of forgotten graves at Fairview cemetery and this is one of them. Walter Harvey was my great grandmother's autistic brother who lived with my great grandparents on the farm for several decades. Instead of shipping him away to an institution and forgotten about, the family took turns taking him in. My great grandmother, Kibby, was the main caregiver with help from her sister in Hayti, SD. The rest of the family saw to it all the bills, including doctor bills, funeral, and the er****on of this stone were paid. My dad was born after Walter died but he remembered his grandmother referred to a certain room in the old house as "Walter's" bedroom. Walter's job at the farm was tending to the chickens as dad saw evidence of his work when he was a youngster visiting his grandparents during the 1930s.
