We have a fascinating talk scheduled for our September Nevada History - On the GO! for Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 1 to 2:30 pm at the Sierra View Library.

Richard Markley, historian, author, and retired Forest Service Administrator,
is our guest speaker who will talk about Tragedy & Heroism in the Work of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Nevada: The Rock Creek Fire of 1939.

This presentation will share recently published research about a little-known tragic wildfire that took the lives of 5 young Civilian Conservation Corps firefighters in northern Nevada in 1939.

For most of the men, this was their first wildfire assignment. Newly published research by Mr. Markley reveals much about the men who perished, what led to their deaths, and what has become the legacy of the Rock Creek Fire.

Mark your calendars for our September Writers' Wednesday - On The GO! speaker, Stan Paher, historian and author, who will talk about his newest book, Nevada Courthouse Controversies.

The talk is Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The doors open at 5:00 pm at the Knights of Pythias Lodge at 980 Nevada Street, Reno, NV 89503.

Nevada Courthouse Controversies book features a large section on the controversial topic of moving the county seat and courthouse from Washoe City to Reno between 1868 and 1873.
