Westbound Milwaukee Road #263 with an A-B-A set of EMD F-7s rolling across the Benewah trestle on Lake Chatcolet, just west of Saint Maries, Idaho. The trestle is still is use as the St. Maries River Railroad now owns the tracks and hauls products from St. Maries to the interchange with the Union Pacific Railroad at Plummer, Idaho. This is the August photo from our 2026 calendar.

Great range of designs celebrating our 250th!

Version 2 complete!

Just because the 4th of July has passed doesn't mean we're going to stop celebrating America AND these amazing tribute locomotives! If you're turning 250 you definitely get to have a whole birthday year, not just a day or a weekend. 🎉

Here's an update to our original locomotive graphic with five additions: New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway, Pinsly Railroad Company's Grenada Railroad and Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad and Regional Rail's Carolina Coastal Railway and Florida Central Railroad. Some of you have been asking about whether we'd be offering posters of this design for sale. Unfortunately creating merch isn't really our jam, but Andrew Fletcher has drawn quite a few of these. 🙂

In case you ever wondered what happened to our little Davenport two-foot gauge engine, it has been sold to a restorer who is chronicling every step of the restoration process on his YouTube channel. Pretty cool to watch this journey unfold and he is definitely doing it right! Here's hoping we might borrow her someday for a run around the home track.

This channel documents the preservation, restoration and operation of vintage two-foot gauge steam locomotives. This is going to be a heavy post.

We need tons of help.

Quite simply, we are trying to raise $10,750 for 181 tons of ballast that will help us repair and expand the yard at our museum. There are lots of details at the link, but you can have a ton of ballast delivered to the museum for a gift of $60. Anything over five tons gets you a one-year membership.
