Since the recent passing of Grand Master Ramiro Estalilla, I now have a greater responsibility as a teacher to improve my skills and rise up in rank to 3rd degree black belt. Given my recent shoulder injury, it might take me a minute longer than anticipated, but for sure I will take on this challenge with strength and honor.

Training day is everyday!
Staying flexible and fit is hard work but rewarding when you achieve, or at my age, maintain goals we set for ourselves.

It’s been tough some days feeling the joints and ligaments stretched to their limit. But always willing to go a little more than the limit.

My sensei Kazumi Tabata had a saying from his home town philosophy:
Ichi no tachi, wo utigazawu ni no tachi wa make.
In Japanese, it basically means, you get one chance, don’t f**k it up.

The "American Flag" socio-political documentary photography series by Scott Crystal
Title: “Fallen Soldier”
-My Dad posed for this series more than once during the last few decades. At the onset of the project, he posed on the ski slope of Mt Abrahams in B&W 35mm. Later, he posed at the farm in Norway using his father’s 6x7 medium format Pentax. And now, this is the last time he will be included, as a tribute to Father’s Day.
