Every testimony, every brush arbor meeting, every prayer revival, and every sacrifice made by those before us are stones of remembrance. Preserving our Pentecostal heritage reminds future generations of the power, truth, and faithfulness of God. We do not honor the past to live in it — we preserve it so the next generation will know what God has done and believe Him for even greater things.

Brother Albert Travis (1918–1993) faithfully dedicated his life to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After receiving the Holy Ghost in New Orleans and being baptized in Jesus’ name, he returned to Mississippi where he would spend decades serving the Kingdom of God.

In 1956, he became pastor of Sunny Hill Pentecostal Church in Purvis, MS, where he faithfully served for 31 years. During his ministry, countless lives were changed, churches were expanded, debts were paid off, and many young ministers were encouraged and supported by his kindness and generosity.

Brother Travis also served the Mississippi District for 22 years as Presbyter and Honorary Presbyter. Even through a battle with cancer, his faith never wavered, and many called him a “walking miracle.”

On November 22, 1993, Brother Albert Travis received his eternal reward, leaving behind a legacy of faith, sacrifice, and dedication to the Kingdom of God.

Founded in 1988 by Reverend and Mrs. Lloyd G. Thompson, First United Pentecostal Church of Wesson began in the old “Wesson Café” building on Spring Street. Through faith, sacrifice, and God’s provision, the church eventually built its current location on Sylvarena Road, lovingly known as “The Miracle on the Hill” and “The Church on the Hill.”

In 2015, after the launch of “Make a Wish Project 23,” the church became completely debt free—fulfilling Pastor Thompson’s desire before his passing later that year.
Over the years, faithful leadership has continued the vision and ministry of the church. Today, the church remains a beacon of hope to the community and is led by Pastor Jason Stone.

Born in Neshoba County, Mississippi, in 1930, Reverend R.L. Tolbert dedicated more than 60 years to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After receiving the Holy Ghost at age 16 and answering the call to ministry a year later, he began a lifetime of faithful service.
Brother Tolbert pastored 14 churches across Mississippi, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, personally building six churches and helping build five more. In 1955, while pastoring Pine Grove Pentecostal Church in Foxworth, MS, he hosted a Fellowship Meeting where a young Glen Ray Travis preached for the very first time.

He served on both the Mississippi and Arkansas District Boards and remained licensed with the UPCI for 69 years. His life and ministry left a lasting legacy of faith, leadership, and dedication to the Kingdom of God.

In April 1985, Brother John H. Ford came to Water Valley when the church was averaging just 18 in Sunday School while meeting in the old Camp Ground church. Soon, God began to move in revival, with many receiving the Holy Ghost and being baptized in Jesus’ name.

On August 8, 1985, the congregation moved into a new church building on Hwy. 7 North. Although the church carried a debt of $111,000 at 13.5% interest, Brother and Sister Ford led with faith, wisdom, and dedication. Through sacrifice, hard work, fundraisers, and God’s blessing, the church paid off the entire debt in April 1991.
Brother Ford often quoted Nehemiah 4:6: “For the people had a mind to work.”
Today, the church continues its legacy of faith. The church is now known as Apostolic Faith Church and is pastored by Brother Charles Compton.

Pastor Lloyd G. Thompson (1952–2015) lived a life of faith, service, and dedication to the Kingdom of God.

After receiving the Holy Ghost in 1980, he answered the call to ministry—founding First United Pentecostal Church in Wesson, Mississippi, in 1988 and faithfully pastoring for 27 years.

A leader, servant, and visionary, his impact continues to be felt through the lives he touched and the work he helped build.

His legacy lives on.

Founded in 1966 by Reverend Rufus Barnes, Theo Holiness Church began in a small block building and was later rebuilt on a nearby hill after the original property was purchased for highway construction.

Since 2006, Reverend and Mrs. Ronald Wilbanks have faithfully led the church, guiding it through growth and expansion.

A story of perseverance, faith, and continued impact.

Donna Ten Eyck has faithfully served the Mississippi District with a passion for prayer, unity, and leadership.

Since receiving the Holy Ghost in 1984, she has dedicated her life to ministry—serving as Mississippi District Office Administrator, Ladies Prayer International Director, and Promotions Director for District Ladies Ministries.

An anointed speaker who travels nationally, her heart is to “repair the breach” through prayer and unity.

Above all, she treasures her role as a mother and “Nana.”
