We’re OPEN 7 days a week throughout September, but our tour schedule changes after Monday, September 7.

People ask us how we add to our collection of artifacts. People often generously donate items they purchased from the inmates many years ago. Sometimes people find things in their attic or garage. Sometimes former employees donate items. But most often the Prison itself reveals an artifact for us. This was found on the 4:30 tour today. Why did it suddenly appear on the floor of the Library? We gave 6 other tours today with almost 50 other people and no one noticed a blue wrapper on the floor before Tour Guide Charles noticed it at 4:45 pm. Our Prison is a mysterious thing and that's why we love it so!

This year’s Mark J. Setright scholarship winner! Tour Guide Cris will be attending one of Wyoming’s amazing Community Colleges and studying Mechanical Engineering. The Friends of the Old Pen are so very proud of him and we are honored to continue our first Historic Site Director Mark’s legacy and love of education. Don’t forget to visit over Christmas break!

The third project, in this series, was trimming a metal door to fit a settling door jam. The door to the cafeteria has had to be trimmed before. As the wimpiest person on staff, I know it is getting bad when I can no longer open the door! Thanks again to Amanda Wayne, and Darren.
