I am a collage/assemblage and then some artist, and I focus most on angels and pigs. My Angels are more abstract and not as I “see” them, but rather how I perceive them. They form themselves and share several different messages depending on the day. Lately my angels have been full of sass, the words that they carry on their wings have simply become marks to be released to the wind. They want us to be kinder to ourselves, to speak our “peace”, to be seen. They are reminders that tranquility exists. There is some angel in each of us. Truth. We forget. I strive to remind people, and I believe in collective healing, meaning that any healing any of us does helps to heal the whole. Thus my affection for SoulCollage®.
As a SoulCollage® facilitator, that specific collage process speaks to me as much as it does to my participants. I appreciate how art can help people find their voices, unwind certain things too long carried and set them down in ways that cannot always be accomplished with words.
I also have animal loves in my work. Turtles for perseverance, snakes for regeneration and forgiving yourself, owls for patience and knowing. Cats because cats. But most especially pigs. Pigs are misunderstood, have huge personalities, form tight bonds and are holy confidants and heart healers. I made a 4’ x 4’ acrylic painting of my Friend Wally the pig. His toothy pancake grin is contagious. His mighty presence makes me smile at my tiny studio inside 16th Street Studios in Racine, WI.
Art is my sanity, sanctuary, strength, and if I’m really lucky it speaks to someone else too.
