- Image taken of Retired Captain John Stripple in No. 1, the first firefighter in Wisconsin to operate a motorized fire pump at a real fire!

Captain Stripple (serving at the RFD from 1899 - 1941) was a horse driver, however he became the first driver at the department when Racine purchased the first motor driven piece of fire apparatus in Wisconsin in 1911.

It wasn't long before Racine became the first all-motorized department in Wisconsin!
