The Quincy Valley Historical Society took home this year’s Best Fair Theme award!

Dressed in historical attire and bringing a little history to life, the organization helped us celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary in true Fair fashion. We loved seeing the time and creativity they put into their display and costumes. They definitely caught our attention and made history a part of this year’s Fair!

Check out this wall phone in the Reiman-Simmons House donated by Roxa Kreimeyer...
The marking on the wooden box reads: WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY CHICAGO – NEW YORK
The magneto wall phones were introduced around 1907 and remained in production for decades.
How it worked: The telephone itself generated the electrical current needed to call the operator. The two large bells at the top are the telephone’s ringer. The prominent mouthpiece in the center is the transmitter, while the separate receiver hangs on the left. You picked up the receiver and turned the crank on the right side. The internal magneto generator produced a ringing current. That rang a bell at the telephone exchange. The operator answered and connected your call.

Those of you who lived out in the country in the 70's and early 80's, remember still being on a party line and others could listen in or tell you to please get off because they needed to make a call?👂🏼📞😆

We are collecting memories, photographs, uniforms, personal items, and documents of our local Veterans' service. It is humbling to work alongside such a dedicated group of volunteers, who gave up their whole week to present Journey to Philadelphia: 1776!
It was been a great week, and we are grateful to have received the Best Fair Theme Decor award!

The museum is closed to the public today for a rental but you can come check out our interactive exhibit 'Journey to Philadelphia: 1776' at the GC Fair! Last chance to learn and have fun with our amazing volunteers!
