Pullman Depot Heritage Center The mission of the Pullman Depot Heritage Center is to sustain the unique character of the depot and engage the community in the exploration of Pullman.

Founded in 2018 We are open in the Freight Room on Saturdays from 1pm - 4pm. We have new exhibits! Stop by! The Depot was once the focal point of town, where people arrived and departed when rail transportation was a major means of travel. All mail came by rail. Most express packages and even cars, farm equipment, and furniture was delivered to the depot. The university relied on shipments of books and supplies well into the 1980s. Northern Pacific spur lines to the north of the depot along Grand Avenue brought rail cars to various storage facilities where grain was shipped out, providing area farmers an avenue to market their goods. Despite Pullman and the Palouse having an impressive history, there is nowhere one can visit to learn about the many stories, people, businesses, and achievements that mark the hundred-plus years of time since the town was first settled. Future generations will grow up never having experienced train travel or understanding how rail transportation built the West and its impact on the local economy. It is our aim to fill that gap by developing the Depot into a vital hub where the community can gather and learn about its history. We believe in the importance of preserving this historic and unique building of Pullman. The Depot is a prime example of few remaining opportunities to savor, restore, and save the past.

It may surprise you, but the perfect time for Palouse native gardening is actually Fall! All 2026 plant donations to our hillside Pocket Prairie have just gone in the ground. Thanks to generous donations, we're also increasing our metal species signage. Come see how many different species you can count!

As we wind down for winter, our garden is looking great. Landscaping rocks provided by our Addium Meter Grant are in place to beautifully anchor erosion areas. Multiple plant species have produced a good seed bank to feed birds this winter, and spread beneficial plants next season. And finally, continued volunteer efforts to hand-pull noxious weeds (instead of using herbicides) is starting to pay off. We hope to enjoy the increased winter texture this year, while anticipating even more native coverage next spring.

Volunteers do all the heavy lifting!
Thanks to Max, Evelyn, Allison & Connor for their dedication to the 1916 herringbone brick platform. The 1970s curbing was removed. In the meantime they are resetting some platform brick to add a slight slope towards the parking lot we prep for future finish work to make a seamless and accessible path.
