🏛️ Have a voice in the future of one of Colorado’s Most Endangered Places!

Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site, placed on Colorado’s Most Endangered Places in 2026, is entering an important planning process, and the National Park Service wants to hear from you.

The National Park Service has begun a concept study to explore options for the future of Bent’s Old Fort and the visitor experience. Public input is an important part of that process.

CPI encourages community members, visitors, partners, and anyone connected to this nationally significant place to learn more and share their thoughts.

A special thank you to Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site and Visit La Junta for hosting a public work session yesterday, giving the community an opportunity to learn more about the planning process, ask questions, and hear how to participate.

✈PAHS TAKES FLIGHT!

History isn’t all on the ground! This Saturday, our friends at the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum are celebrating Pueblo’s aviation heritage — and helping welcome an exciting new piece of history to their collection: an F-14 Tomcat.

The Operation Tomcat Festival is Saturday, August 22, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with live music, food trucks, vendors, games, family activities, a silent auction and plenty of aircraft to explore.

The festival also celebrates America’s 250th birthday, Colorado’s 150th birthday, and our veterans — a fitting combination of local, state and national history.

📍 Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, 31001 Magnuson Avenue
🎟️ Adults $15 | Students, Seniors & Veterans $10 | Children 7 & under FREE

🎥 For a fun 4-minute preview of Operation Tomcat, check out FOX21’s Living Local:

Take a little time Saturday to explore another chapter of Pueblo history - this one with wings!

A great opportunity to celebrate Pueblo’s aviation heritage while enjoying a Saturday at one of our community’s history museums!

Pahsey got to go with the South Park Site Stewards yesterday to help record a site. She got to ride in the back pack as it was pretty far hike for such a little pony! She learned how a site is recorded and making lots and lots of tally marks for artifacts found! It was a fun day!

Meet Pahsey, the PAHS pony! Pahsey joined us at the summer PAHS potluck. She will be having adventures with different PAHS members over the year. Her PAHS foster family can document her adventures by either writing in her journal or posting pictures of her on PAHS Facebook site. As her ID card shows, she does not eat much and she loves to go on adventures big or small!

Let’s not leave future archaeologists a layer of invasive mussel shells to explain.

Archaeologists study how people interact with and sometimes change their environment. Today, we have a chance to make sure one chapter of Colorado history does not include zebra, quagga or golden mussels taking over our waterways.

These tiny invaders can hitch rides on boats, kayaks, fishing gear, waders and even muddy boots. Once established they can damage ecosystems, clog water pipes and potentially affect Colorado agriculture, including our chile crop.

Help keep these unwanted newcomers out of Colorado’s environmental record:

Clean. Drain. Dry.

Even if you don’t recreate on the water, please share this with someone who does.

Some artifacts belong in museums. Invasive mussels do not.
