We’re pleased to announce that Ruben Natal-San Miguel (.sanmiguel)'s photograph, Emily: Gun Hill Road, 2019, The Bronx, NYC, is joining the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (). This work was given by Ruben in memory of his brother, Angel Manuel Natal-San Miguel, and in honor of Gary Marotta Fine Art.

The MFA Boston stated that this donation “supports the Museum’s efforts to build…[their] collection of works by Latinx photographers.” In a letter to Ruben, the museum went on to say that the two works of Ruben’s entering the collection “find meaning alongside works by fellow contemporary photographers already in our holdings such as Endia Beal, Alicia Rodriguez Alvisa, Jen Davis, and Jess Dugan, as well as the vernacular portraiture represented in our deep holdings from the Peter J. Cohen snapshot collection.”

Emily’s portrait is also a part of Ruben’s “Women R Beautiful” exhibition, which opens at Vassar College () tomorrow!

Ruben Natal-San Miguel (.sanmiguel)'s ''Black On White, White On Black'' (Brian), 2018, Roosevelt Island, NYC, 24x24 inches has been acquired by Museum of Fine Arts, Boston () thanks to the generous gift of art collectors Pamela Hornik () and David Hornik ().

According to , the couple "have built a collection of emerging and established artists that reflects not just their passion for supporting artists, but also a desire to share their diverse and inclusive collection with the world." Pamela, a philanthropist and arts advocate, and David, a founding partner of the venture capital firm Lobby Capital, provide public access to their collection by placing works in institutions across the country.

Regarding the acquisition, Ruben writes, "Thank you so much to Karen Hass (), senior curator of photographs...[who] supported my work over the years and the wonderful museum staff for its support and help!" Ruben also explains that the MFA Boston was one of his favorite places to visit in the 1980s, and says, "Thank you so much to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston for including portraiture of people of color by me, a Puerto Rican-American."

We are pleased to announce the opening of "Women R Beautiful” by Ruben Natal-San Miguel (.sanmiguel) at Vassar College.

Ruben’s photographs will be on view in the Palmer Gallery from January 10 to February 6 as a part of MODfest, Vassar’s annual arts festival.

Ruben says this exhibit of photographs is “a way to have people understand otherness and other beauty…” The photographs may call to mind the work of 20th century photographer Garry Winogrand’s “Women Are Beautiful,” but Natal-San Miguel’s photographs embody a different gaze, a different perspective of different women, allowing the viewer to see and be affected by his subjects in a new way.

🎉Congratulations Ruben!🎉

Beauty is something we all respond to, universal and at the same time, highly individual. There are certain things human beings tend to find beautiful.
