While the quarry is closed this summer, you can see the fossils that were collected ahead of the construction project being prepared here at the Prehistoric Museum!

Starting April 30, the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry at Jurassic National Monument will temporarily close as the BLM undertakes a major construction project to replace the building that protects the quarry. Construction is anticipated to be completed by fall.

During construction, visitors can still hike the Jurassic Journey and Cretaceous Climb trails via a bypass trail, and the visitor center and picnic areas will be open as usual.

This project has been in development for several years and is crucial for safeguarding the fossils from further erosion. The new facility will feature improved drainage, enhanced visitor access, and more spacious viewing areas for the fossil beds.

The Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry holds one of the densest concentrations of Jurassic fossils ever found and hosts a uniquely high concentration of carnivore fossils that have captured the interests of paleontologists and the public alike for a century.

Exciting news for !

The Prehistoric Museum has partnered with the Bureau of Land Management to prepare and house fossils recently collected from the Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry at Jurassic National Monument! Those fossils were collected as part of a mitigation project ahead of new construction that will be happening at the monument. This three-year contract will allow us to hire an additional full-time preparator and purchase cabinets and other materials to safely store these important fossils forever. Get ready for more Allosaurus content over the next few years!
