The museum hosts a well developed collection of Prattville and Autauga County artifacts, as well as an extensive archives that includes maps, cemetery, church, and family histories. Serving through preservation, the ACHA has saved and developed a number of historic properties, including the Buena Vista mansion. The Buena Vista is open every Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. for tours and is available for weddings, showers, and other special events.

The following is the program presented at the Dedication Ceremony in memory of Lenore Kirkpatrick and Al & Sheila Bock for their preservation efforts in Prattville.
ACHA thanks Margie Fallen, Don Edgeworth, and Terry Young for their service in planning the ceremony.
ACHA held a Dedication Ceremony to unveil a bronze plaque as a tribute to Lenore Kirkpatrick and Al & Sheila Bock on Monday , November 27 at Prattvillage Garden. In 1982 they initiated Old Prattvillage on First Street in Prattville and continued to add important historical buildings to the site. Master Gardners, of which Lenore was a member, continue to maintain the lovely garden, a special site for small weddings an other events.
Lenore, Al & Sheila were long time dedicated volunteers with ACHA, serving on the Board multiple tenures & daily working to preserve our local history as they welcomed visitors to our Prattaugan Museum. In addition to their work at the museum, ACHA’s preservation of the Mims Hotel, the Slaton House, the Robinson-Smith House were accomplished under their leadership. Lenore & the Bocks were especially proud of their work in saving the shotgun houses of Hunts Alley and the development of new homes on Hunts Alley Street.
Prattville and Autauga County are indebted to them for their preservation efforts to secure the history of our community’s past for future generations.
Please remember to place this event on your calendar for this coming Monday, Nov27 at 10:30!

Do you have a story to share?
The past is a beautiful thing. Every time you step into the Prattaugan Museum, you can all but taste the history beneath your feet.
It can be difficult to connect at times. It can be hard to look at strange people who walked hundreds of years before we did and think, “I need to learn all about them.”
But then we go and talk to Grandma. Or Mama. Or Grandpa. Or Daddy. Or Uncle, Aunt, Cousin, Sister, Brother. The family stories spill from their mouths, and all of a sudden history matters.
We need to keep those stories.
On that note, the Prattaugan Museum is launching the “Keeping Our Stories Alive” project. If you have a family story, something you have been told your whole life, or if you have seen something, or you remember something vividly, we invite you to submit a summary of this story to our email at [email protected]. We will review the stories, and from there we will pick families to invite to the Museum for an official interview.
No story is small or insignificant. We want to keep our history alive.
Help us to preserve our history!

The first rock is hidden!
Here is your first clue from Daniel Pratt:

Join us for a Scavenger Hunt in downtown!
A Message from Daniel Pratt:
Tomorrow begins our Prattaugan Museum Scavenger Hunt fun! How thrilled we are! But first, a few rules!
The rock found must have the Prattaugan Museum’s sticker on it—after all, it cannot just be any painted rock! It has to be the very rock we have hidden.
To trade the rock for a prize, the rock must be returned to the Prattaugan Museum. If the rock is found, but not returned (we will know by the empty hiding spot) within three days time, the prize will be forfeit.
There can only be one winner! Everyone is free to look for the rocks in teams, but please be prepared to share the prize!
Everyone is welcomed (and encouraged) to play! We have a wide range of prizes that will please all ages!
Finally, please do not try to beat the game—Daniel Pratt promises he will know.
Happy Hunting, friends! The first clue will come VERY soon!
A fun activity in downtown Prattville…
Attention everyone! Daniel Pratt has a message for you!
Next week, starting on November 1, the Prattaugan Museum is inviting everyone to participate in the Museum’s first Scavenger Hunt! We will be hiding specific rocks from the Museum throughout Downtown. Check social media every day! I will be posting a Pratt Clue. The first person to find the rock must turn in the rock to the Prattaugan Museum for a small prize! Once the first rock is returned, a new rock will be hidden and a new clue published! Please share all over your social media! All are welcomed and encouraged to participate! The last rock hidden will be special—and will have a grand prize. Please contact the Prattaugan Museum with any questions you may have.
The festivities are really beginning at the Prattaugan Museum! Come and help us celebrate!
AND! Keep a watch on our social media—we have a fun announcement coming in the next few days! Hint: happy seeking!

Be sure to visit the Prattaugan Museum to see & feel the warmth of our temporary exhibit on quilts! Ruth Ann Weedon shared quilts & history from her Whetstone family. Others in the community have also shared beautiful family quilts. These quilts were lovingly created by skilled women of an earlier generation. Taking leftover scraps or recycling a worn out garment, these women created not only a utilitarian item to provide warmth on a cold winter night but they expressed their artistic ability in making a item of lasting beauty. The quilt exhibit, “The Ties that Bind”, will continue until January 6.

ACHA has many great videos available for you to view on the Autauga County Heritage Association’s You Tube site! Check them out today and possibly learn something new about our great history!( please go to You Tube to access videos- this is a photo of site).
The ACHA volunteer archivists have completed the preservation of the DP/CGC Ledgers that fell out of the ceiling at the Gin Shop in January 2022 when the renovations started for The Mill. The over 65 ledgers have been cleaned, page by page, catalogued and covered and moved to our climate control storage unit. It is the hope of the association to have a larger museum to make these and other archives available to the public for research and genealogy. ACHA currently has a Market Assessment underway to determine the support available in the community to build a new museum. The plans are to have a library, with archives, plus a gallery of interactive exhibits to tell the story of Daniel Pratt & Continental Gin Company. The City of Prattville has been left a legacy by the Pratt family of the 180 years of this international company and the impact this family and company has had on our state and country.
DONT YOU THINK IT’S TIME TO SHARE THIS SIGNIFICANT HISTORY WITH THE WORLD?
Quilts continue to be added to the “The Tie that Binds” Quilt Exhibit!

It is with great sadness that this great team of volunteers has lost another member. Stuart Burson started with us in 2015 when we were located at Hancock Whitney Bank. Stuart brought his great sense of humor with him and kept our group laughing & provided much joy to our efforts. He was always willing to do whatever job was required and was essential to our preservation of over 300 ledgers from the Daniel Pratt Gin Company and Continental Gin Company.
It’s been an extremely sad year for this group of dedicated volunteers. Just this year alone we have lost four in this group photo. Each loved being a part of this team and their effort to save Prattville’s history should be remembered for years to come.
Thank you, Jeff Gaylor, for the video of the pre-construction to completion of the original Daniel Pratt Gin Company.
