Prairie City Historical Society
PO Box 344 Prairie City, Iowa 50228
Dear Prospective Member/Supporter,
You are receiving this letter because we think you might enjoy being a member of the Prairie City Historical Society. If you agree after reading this letter, we hope you’ll sign up to become a supporter of your Museum and its role in the community.
Prairie City should be proud of its museum. It’s located on the west side of the City Square in two store fronts that are part of the “Brick Block.” This block was rebuilt after fire destroyed the block and its frame structures in 1880.
As owners or tenants moved out of the brick buildings in the mid to late 1900’s, an opportunity arose for some dedicated individuals to renovate two of the stores and create the Prairie City Historical Museum. This required some hard work and significant private financial contributions.
Today, the Museum still functions and serves as a repository for interesting historical artifacts as well as a gathering place for a seniors’ morning coffee and a meeting place for the Prairie City Lions Club, the Prairie City Garden Club, high school class reunions and other groups.
There are many things the Museum’s Board of Directors could be doing to expand and enhance the learning and enjoyment provided by the Museum. They all require (1) Cash and (2) Volunteer or paid labor. Broadening our membership is one means of helping to secure these two crucial elements.
Please consider signing on as a member, and, if you are so inclined, make an additional and much appreciated donation to support the Museum’s work.
Thank you so much for your consideration. PRAIRIE CITY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, Board of Directors
