Frances Ridley Havergal (1836–1879) was a gifted English poet, hymn writer, and devoted Christian who left a lasting impact on the world through her deeply spiritual writings and songs. Raised in a Christian home, she displayed a love for Scripture and music from a young age, dedicating her talents to the service of God. One important moment in her ministry came when she penned the beloved hymn “Take My Life and Let It Be,” during a spiritual awakening in her own heart. It was in that moment she surrendered her life fully to Christ, and her words have since inspired countless believers to do the same.

God used Havergal’s hymns and poems to point others toward a life of holiness and complete consecration to Him. Through her music and writings, she emphasized the importance of personal devotion, trust in God’s promises, and joyful obedience. Her testimony of humble surrender continues to impact society today, reminding people that a life yielded to Christ is a life of true purpose and influence.

We invite you to explore more of Frances Ridley Havergal’s inspiring story by visiting her display at the Christian Heritage Center on the campus of The Crown College. Come and be encouraged by the life of a woman whose faith still speaks today.

Adoniram Judson and four other men were ordained for foreign service in Salem, Massachusetts, by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions at Bombay. He was among the first foreign missionaries sent from the United States.

Judson and his wife Ann lived in what is now Myanmar for nearly forty years, formerly known as Burma. During his ministry, he wrote numerous booklets and tracts on a range of theological topics, translated the Bible and other Christian writings into two languages, assisted in leading hundreds of Burmese and Karen tribe members to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, and encouraged Baptists in America to come together for the purpose of global missions.
