Homesteader Museum Celebrating the pioneer spirit that turned mountain desert into prospering homesteads and Powell, WY Step back in time!

There is no admission charge (FREE) to visit the Homesteader Museum. Donations appreciated...

The Homesteader Museum celebrates the pioneering spirit that turned barren sagebrush fields into prospering homestead farms and established the thriving town of Powell. As recipients of one of the Nation's first Reclamation Projects, the Powell Valley received its first water via the Shoshone River in 1908. The museum's collection represents the first half of the 20th century, covering four homesteading divisions. Visit two homesteader cabins, climb aboard a caboose, explore 10,000 square feet of exhibits that are sure to bring back many memories! The museum has been described by visitors as "hidden treasure not to be missed!"

for the month of September we will be looking at Bent Street between 2nd & 3rd Streets - all photographs are looking South towards Colter Ave.

Today we are standing in front of the Union Presbyterian Church (today - United Church of Powell) as the congregation is leaving church services in 1970.

Welcome to with Outreach Coordinator, Susie Rodriguez.

The Wyoming Wind decided to pay us a visit at Farm to Table, but everyone was thankful we had an inside option. We would like to thank the Park County Fairgrounds, Sarah Bear’s Farmhouse Kitchen, Amigo’s, Mustang Mountain Vineyard for the door prize’s donation, and our volunteer organizations NWC Basketball Players (awesome help guys!), the NWC Nurses, and PHS Debate Team.
And of course all of the Homesteader Museum’s Board Members and Volunteers who made it all happen. It was a lovely evening for great food and conversation. Thank you to everyone who joined us in supporting our one and only local museum!

Thank you to the community for such a wonderful day!

Today’s Treasure: Egg Carton, c.1960
Donated by Donna Kenney

For today’s item I have chosen an egg carton with a rather colorful design, in contrast to the usual rather bland design on most egg cartons. The carton as you probably already saw comes from Ronnie Knopp’s Heart Mountain farm and is made of cardboard with the design printed on it. There is a very faint stamp that denotes the eggs were “Large Grade A Eggs” which I know is there for government mandated reasons but I always find funny because I’ve never seen Grade AA or B eggs for sale anywhere anymore. For a small farm like Knopp Farm it is interesting to see a personalized design on a carton like this, it adds an extra cost to the packaging cost of the eggs I’m sure so the business must have been doing very well to afford to do so.

Hello Facebook Friends! Welcome to where we are asking you for help in identifying mysteries within our collection!

Today we will begin a long journey with an unidentified collection of photographs and negatives from Laing Studios. The images are of unidentified congregation, families, and members who belonged and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, circa 1965. We will be highlighting three photographs each Monday and slowly moving through this collection.
