A huge congratulations is in order! Dr. Aliyah Vance has officially made marine history by becoming the first Black woman to lead a deep-ocean exploration team, diving two miles beneath the Atlantic surface inside a specialized submersible. Her mission successfully discovered three entirely new species of bioluminescent marine organisms and gathered critical data on how deep-sea ecosystems are adapting to global climate shifts. Dr. Vance has spent years advocating for increased diversity within marine sciences, establishing a fully funded summer internship program specifically for students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Her groundbreaking research was just published on the cover of a premier science journal. Leave a message to celebrate Dr. Vance!

Remembering Marian Robinson, who we lost on this day 2 years ago.

(July 30, 1937 – May 31, 2024) She was the mother of Michelle Obama, former first lady of the United States, and Craig Robinson, a basketball executive.

She was the mother-in-law of Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States. She worked as a secretary and executive assistant before and after raising her children with her husband, Fraser Robinson, in Chicago. In retirement, she moved to the White House during her son-in-law's presidency, where she helped raise her grandchildren.
