Locust Grove was pleased to participate in the Wappingers Historical Society’s 125th Anniversary Dahlia Show on September 19th. Our arrangement of dahlia’s from our gardens took 2nd Place in “The American Garden: Celebrating REV 250!”.

Locust Grove is excited to announce a new way of enhancing our visitor experience. After five months of work, we are thrilled to share with you our new interactive guide, located on the Bloomberg Connects app and website. We are the first historic home in Dutchess County to have a guide with Bloomberg Connects! The guide offers two exciting features. First is a Historical Timeline which takes visitors through Locust Grove’s history, from 1771 through 1975 and the families that lived here. Second is a guided audio tour of the Upper Grounds, sharing the history of prominent spots on the grounds, such as the Greenhouse and Ornamental Gardens. Both sections feature historical photographs from our archives.

The guide is extremely user friendly! No need to download the Bloomberg Connects app, the guide will open in your mobile web browser. Simply scan our QR code to access the guide and its content. Marketing materials about the guide and how to access it are available in our museum shop, and posted on signs outside of the Visitor Center. All content on the guide features alt text, descriptions, and transcriptions to meet necessary accessibility standards. The guide can also be translated into 60+ languages, making the content accessible to all visitors.

The audio tour and timeline are just the first step, and we have plans to expand the guide in the coming year. We will be adding a revamped trail map, including historic spots around the trails. The mansion will also take a prominent spot in the guide, allowing visitors to have deeper access “beyond the velvet ropes” to see the objects on display.

We are very proud of the work that has been done to create this guide for our visitors, both new and old. Locust Grove is joining 1,500+ other cultural institutions on the Bloomberg Connects app! We hope you enjoy our guide, and look forward to its future updates!
