This holiday season, Arts Mid-Hudson invites shoppers to discover those stories at the Holiday Dutchess Handmade Shop located at the AMH Gallery in Poughkeepsie, opening October 22 and running through December 16. “What can happen when an artist is given time and space to experiment? An idea that has been sitting quietly might finally be explored. A new material might lead somewhere unexpected. Conversations with other artists can challenge an old way of thinking. And sometimes, having permission to take a creative risk can change what comes next. At Ann Street Gallery in Newburgh, three Hudson Valley artists have spent the past several months doing just that.

Tales from the Penumbra: Memories of Shadow-and-Light, on view through November 22, showcases new work by Elena Kalkova, Duncan Richards, and Luis Mercedes Winter, the 2026 participants in Safe Harbors of the Hudson’s Emerging Artist Fellowship. “When we leave one place for another, what comes with us? We can pack some things in a suitcase, but we also carry things less visibly: family stories, languages, recipes and rituals, beliefs, memories, images, music, and traditions passed from one generation to the next. Some remain remarkably intact. Others change with distance and time. And some take on entirely new meaning in a new place.

Those questions are at the center of Arrivals & Afterlives, an exhibition at Unison Arts Center in New Paltz bringing together five Hispanic immigrant artists whose work explores migration not simply as a journey from one place to another, but as an ongoing process of becoming. 👋 Meet the 40th Annual Dutchess County Executive’s Arts Awards MC Beth Christy! ⁠

For nearly 40 years, Beth Christy has entertained, informed, and connected with listeners, from her early days in Pennsylvania to becoming a familiar voice throughout the Hudson Valley on Oldies 97, Mix 97, The Wolf, Q92, and 107.3 WRWD.

For the past two years, Beth has also been part of iHeartRadio’s National Custom Talent Team, sharing her voice with listeners on 20 stations across the country, from Alaska and California to Ohio, Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, western New York, and beyond.

Now, Beth is turning the page and beginning an entirely new creative chapter. After decades of creating connections, stories, and memorable moments with her voice, she’s trading the microphone for fabric, faux leather, cork, and thread, and discovering just how much fun it can be to create something you can actually hold in your hands.

Beth will take the mic for this special evening, keeping the awards ceremony moving as we celebrate the incredible artists, organizations, and arts champions who make Dutchess County’s arts community so vibrant. 🎉

“Rhythm Rising” is a group of talented Hudson Valley musicians lead by Grammy nominated percussionist Tomas Martin Lopez.⁠

Their music blends Afro-Caribbean, Latin Jazz, Bossa Nova and Samba with vibraphone adding a smooth but fiery drive. They honor Latin Jazz Artists such as Cal Tjader. Tito Puente, and Mongo Santamaria. They also infuse their set lists with original compositions. ⁠
