Oregon Tennis Historical Society The Oregon Tennis Historical Society curates the rich archives of Oregon tennis history displayed and stored at the Irvington Club in Portland, Oregon

In 1990, the Irvington Club undertook a program to become the repository of Oregon tennis history by creating the Oregon Tennis Historical Committee. As our oldest tennis club, it is fitting that this responsibility rests with the Irvington Club, which has played a very important historical role in local tennis. The Committee was formed by Sam Lee, Emery Neal, Steve Hall and others to protect and

maintain irreplaceable documents that are one of a kind treasures that cannot be replaced and to provide visibility to all of the material that we have developed and collected and to serve as a media for keeping the information current. The documents are stored in humidity controlled vaults at the Irvington Club and are on display in beautiful cases throughout the club.

This year the Oregon State Tennis Championship will present the first Sportsmanship Award in honor of Mr Harry A. Merlo. Harry played a huge role in bringing championship tennis to Portland. Harry insisted that players, including Jimmy Conners and John McEnroe, conformed to a sportsmanship code of conduct in events that he sponsored. That legacy will become a part of this years and future championships that we organize and promote. Registrations are open. https://playtennis.usta.com/competitions/oregontennishistoricalsociety/Tournaments/overview/48A6DD9A-14D4-4E71-83E9-2866DEF2EA4C
