George Wesley Bellows, born on this day in 1882.

George Bellows was originally drawn to the Maine landscape by the work of Winslow Homer, whose powerful seascapes he greatly admired and emulated. But it was the natural beauty of the coast and the vibrant, almost chaotic activity of the working waterfronts that captivated Bellows’ attention for several summers.
