Happy Juneteenth! Today marks the date in 1865 when news was finally delivered to the people of Galveston, TX, that the Civil War had ended and formerly enslaved people had been freed. Celebrated by African American communities for over 150 years and now a federal holiday, Juneteenth is a day to reflect, to celebrate freedoms and embrace culture, and to look forward. You can learn more about the history of this day at Juneteenth.com.

Admission to Victoria Mansion is free on today, but capacity is limited. Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be made on our website: https://victoriamansion.org/event/juneteenth-2026/

is just two days away! We hope you can join us for free admission between 10am-4pm this Friday. We will also honor and hold space for the twenty-seven individuals known to have been enslaved by Ruggles and Olive Morse in New Orleans, whose lives and journeys before, during, and after enslavement we continue to uncover and share with visitors.
Since 2021, our Unwilling Architects Initiative has prompted extensive research that has begun to discover much about these enslaved persons, whose uncompensated labor in Louisiana contributed to the fortune that built Victoria Mansion. Through this ongoing effort, we endeavor to shine a light on these individuals’ lives and bring their stories into the full human history of this landmark property.
Tickets are free but advance reservations are strongly encouraged due to museum capacity. https://victoriamansion.org/event/juneteenth-2026/

Tradespeople- apply now for our 2026 Training Workshop: Conserving and Restoring Historic Flat Plaster Finishes! (August 3-7 and 10-14, 2026)

This year, we are partnering with preservationist John Leeke and plasterer Peter Lord to offer a two-week course in the repair and replication of historic flat plaster finishes. This course will be of interest to tradespeople who work directly with plaster as well as carpenters, painters, and other tradespeople whose work intersects with historic plaster finishes.

Participation in the class is limited and subject to a competitive application process. Notably, the trainees will receive a weekly stipend to help make attendance feasible for working professionals.
