Coming to the James Hibbard Gallery at Blackfish in September:

Jerry Svoboda: Natural Forces

In Natural Forces, Jerry Svoboda’s first exhibition at Blackfish Gallery, the artist imagines the primordial currents of the world’s genesis, as if seen through the eyes of the first human. Through his charcoal drawings, Svoboda uses landscapes as a stage to explore the flow and transformation of elemental forces. Clouds, fire, and water reveal and obscure mysterious forms that speak equally of dream archetypes, memory, and the underlying geometries that shape our world.

Coming to gallery two at Blackfish in September:

Don Bailey: People I’ve Known

Simultaneously political and intensely personal, Don Bailey’s new exhibition People I’ve Known extends the artist’s acclaimed series of Native American portraits into exploratory narratives of his subjects. Known for his painted portraits taken from archival photographs, Bailey transforms his sources into dynamic narrative compositions incorporating vibrant color, traditional native design, contemporary cultural references, documents, and real and imagined landscapes.

Coming to the main gallery at Blackfish in September:

Clint Brown: A LIFE OF DRAWING

Drawing inspiration from intense examination of the contemporary social landscape, Clint Brown’s exhibition A Life of Drawing, displays both Brown’s mastery of the medium and continuing relevance. Across a range of charcoal and conté drawings, Brown confronts pressing issues such as homelessness, environmental degradation, and epidemic disease, as well as universal constants of love and death. In presenting viewers with alternating images contemporary, historical, and timeless, Brown stresses an essential humanity, that is in equal parts challenging and tender.
