Long Island Explorium Our vision is to be a leader in STEM discovery, learning and innovation for children.

The Long Island Explorium encourages visitors to explore and play together in our hands-on interactive maker space rich with science/ STEM based exhibits and activities. While our focus is children ages 2-12 and their caregivers, we welcome visitors of all ages. The Long Island Explorium was launched in 2004 as “The Children’s Maritime Museum at Port Jefferson” (CMM) by a group of local residents seeking a family-friendly educational experience.

To our makers, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, partners, Stony Brook University, attendees, and the entire Long Island Explorium team, thank you for helping bring this celebration of creativity, curiosity, innovation, and hands-on learning to life.

Maker Faire Long Island is powered by the people who show up to share what they make, teach what they know, and inspire others to try something new.

We are sorting through so many amazing photos and videos, and we cannot wait to share more highlights from the day. If you attended, exhibited, volunteered, or captured a favorite moment, please tag us so we can see and celebrate it too.

Meet the Makers: New York Sun Works Hydroponic Classroom

One of the reasons the Long Island Explorium is proud to produce Maker Faire Long Island is that it brings hands-on learning experiences like this to our community.

New York Sun Works Hydroponic Classroom is a nonprofit that teaches the science of sustainability through urban farming, and at the Faire, attendees will be able to build their own passive hydroponic system using an upcycled water bottle and take-home supplies.

They will also have a mini hydroponic system at their booth and will be teaching about hydroponics, sustainability, and common climate myths throughout the day.

This is exactly the kind of hands-on STEM and environmental learning experience we love to see at Maker Faire Long Island.

One of the things we love most about producing Maker Faire Long Island is getting to share hands-on experiences that make people say, “I want to try that.”

This year, fairgoers can make their own MFLI light-up badge and learn how to use a soldering iron to attach components to a simple circuit board.

This activity is presented with PCBWay, the Long Island Explorium, and Coney Island Maker Faire.

It is a great chance to try a real maker skill, build something yourself, and leave with a badge you made.
