We gave a private tour Friday to Dennis and Marlene (Engel) Curlew.

Marlene donated some amazing WWII memorabilia from her father, Carl, born and raised in Port Hope. Carl was a decorated war veteran and, well, quite a character (in all good ways).

Both remembered being put to work at Ed and Betty Engel’s farm, by the turnoff to the Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse Park. The Lumberyard Museum’s working milking parlor was from Ed and Betty’s farm.

The Lumberyard Museum is literally an indoors mall of history.

Visit this Saturday and see memorabilia from the Engels and dozens of other local and regional families.

The Lumberyard, and the nearby 1904 Train Depot and Caboose are open free 1-4 Saturday.

Come see Ed and Betty’s milking parlor. And if you bring your cow, we can get her milked.

We gave a by-appointment tour of the Lumberyard Museum the other day.

One of our guests noted, “We enjoyed it so much and can’t thank you enough for taking the time to give us a private tour!

“Again, I am so impressed with how nice the entire village looks and amazed at how the lumberyard building has been restored and used to showcase the heritage of the Thumb area.

“Well done!”

FYI: The Lumberyard is open free 1-4pm Saturday afternoons through September.
