Blue Skies & Tailwinds dear friend...

The Liberty Aviation Museum is deeply saddened to report the loss of a longtime museum supporter and dear friend to the museum, Martha Cangemi. Martha was not only a steadfast supporter of the museum, but a strong supporter of general aviation and the warbird community.
Martha has a long aviation history, as a pilot, flight instructor, and aircraft enthusiast. Martha came to the Liberty Aviation Museum as a volunteer wanting to put her experience flying and being near her favorite aircraft, the B-25 Mitchell Bomber to good use. During her time with the museum Martha willingly jumped in to help with any task that might be needed. Martha did everything from sweeping floors to teaching at our Junior Pilot Camp, to leading our annual ground school safety review for our flight and ground crews. A born organizer, Martha made sure when we traveled to air shows that our crews knew their tasks, and schedules, and always made sure we had plenty of snacks and beverages.
We will treasure our time with Martha and be forever grateful for all she shared with the museum.
We will post the full obituary when available, but here are the basics:

In Honor of a Great Man - The Story Behind Her Name!

The crown jewel 👑 — and first major aircraft acquisition of the Liberty Aviation Museum — is our 1945 B-25 Mitchell bomber, now lovingly known as Georgie’s Gal. 💎

Built near the end of World War II, she never saw combat, but proudly served both in military and civilian roles before being restored to her wartime grandeur.

But why Georgie’s Gal? 🤔 Her name is no mere adornment! Georgie’s Gal honors George V. Woodling Jr., stalwart friend of our CEO Ed, chief benefactor, and driving force behind the founding of the Liberty Aviation Museum.

From his generosity came not only the first funds to launch the museum, but also many treasured artifacts that today stand in tribute to aviation history. 🪽

Though George took his final flight in 2010, his spirit soars on. His legacy, his passion, and his dreams live ever aloft — embodied in Georgie’s Gal and in the museum he helped bring to life! 💚🤎💛

Here's a throwback photo 📸 of our CEO Ed Patrick and George V. Woodling, Jr. together living their best lives. 😊

It’s always a treat to look back at classic photographs of Liberty Aviation Museum’s B-25 Georgie’s Gal! 🪽

This striking shot was captured by renowned aviation photographer Paul Bowen at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in 2012— Georgie’s Gal’s very first appearance at the legendary event under her new name. 💚 🤎 💛

That memorable year, she soared away with top honors, winning Best B-25 along with the prestigious Silver Wrench Award for her immaculate restoration by Aero Trader of Chino, California. ✈️✨

A crowning moment in the story of a true warbird gem! 👑 💎

⁉️Did You Know⁉️

Before becoming ‘Georgie’s Gal,’ our storied B-25 carried several names over the years—first ‘The Devil Made Me Do It,’ then ‘Man of War,’ and most recently ‘Martha Jean.’

In 2011, Liberty Aviation Museum acquired the aircraft and began an extensive restoration, transforming her into the shining gem she is today.” 🪽💎

Below are some photos from the 'Martha Jean' era. 👇🏼
