An affordable, high-quality, American-made alternative to Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. NO PLASTER OF PARIS!!! How to use Victorian Vintage Chalk Paint

There are many great things about chalk paint that artist love and are inspired by. The texture smootly lathers like pudding on just about anything one can possibly imagine. Since it adheres to a plethora of surfaces; wood, metal, glass, concrete, and fabric (one of my favorites) Furniture can be refurbished with a smooth, elegant, modern, pristine finish or you can wave your paintbrush and create a gorgeous, antiqued, aged and distressed antique jewel for your home. There really is no need to sand unless a surface is particularly beat up or chipping you may, in that case, want to go ahead and do some sanding to get the surface smoother. However, in most cases it will not be necessary. You will want to make sure your piece if free of dust and lint before you start chalk painting. You can use a damp cloth. Not much is needed here, just get most of the surface clean and dry. All you need to get started using chalk paint is the paint itself, the piece you are painting, a good paintbrush and I will soon be offering a line of affordable quality chalk and wax paintbrushes/ If you are going to distress the piece later you will need some sandpaper (fine grit) to distress the finish. Just dip your brush and paint the furniture as you would any normal piece. After your first coat (painted thinly) let it dry!!! If there are brush strokes, do not worry after the second coat is dry it will look a lot smoother. It really dries very fast but the longer you leave it the better the patina will settle in and enrich the finish. If distressing, wait up to 12-24 hours before doing any sanding. This time gives the paint a real chance to cure and makes your job and outcome much nicer. After your piece has thoroughly dried, you are ready to seal it. You can use any standard sealant. The best are Fiddes furniture paste which I also carry. If using a polyurethane, I recommend a high quality water-based product. It is best to save the polyurethane for pieces that need a high gloss finish or will receive lots of traffic and abuse, such as dining room table, desks, and coffee tables. SHAKE WELL
