And I quote: " I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom." - Abraham Lincoln

We want to end our celebration with the USS Ponchatoula Shipmates by thanking Mayor J Wesley Daniels, Bailey Taillon and all of the city employees who worked tirelessly to help make the Shipmates' stay in Ponchatoula a top notch event. Also, thanks to Police Chief Bry Layrisson and the Ponchatoula Police Dept. and the Parker Layrisson Law Firm for sponsoring the dinner gathering at Paul's Cafe, as well as Becky Smith and staff at Paul's for the outstanding meal. Special thanks to the Ponchatoula High School Marine ROTC Color Guard and Tyler Kinchen and the Digital Storytelling Class from Ponchatoula High for filming the event, including interviews with the Shipmates and one of the students, Mrs. Maxine Jenkins Hoover, who participated in the scrap drives all those years ago that helped create the USS Ponchatoula.
We conclude by thanking God for blessing us and giving us the freedom and ability to gather and celebrate like this in our great nation!!

What a beautiful day for our celebration with the USS Ponchatoula Shipmates Association as they wind down their reunion week. They stayed busy all week, exploring our city and area. Also, they went to the World War 2 Museum, a Swamp Tour and gathered for a meal at Middendorfs in Manchac. Today, they gathered and celebrated here at the Memorial and Museum and concluded with a delicious dinner at Paul's Cafe sponsored by the Parker Layrisson Law Firm. The Shipmates and their families had a great time and will be coming back for their next reunion in 2028! We wish them a safe trip home and good health and we CAN'T WAIT to celebrate with them again in 2028! God Bless America and we thank God for the great weather and being able to gather with them and celebrate them and the story of the USS Ponchatoula!!!
Note to self: Next time remember to have a sound system so everyone can hear.....

We now have a QR code on a sign on our front porch you can use to purchase a memorial brick supporting the USS Ponchatoula Shipmates Association. The bricks will be placed on the walkway in the Memorial courtyard for all to see forever! You can honor a veteran, your family or organization.
A memorial brick makes a GREAT present and you will be supporting the Shipmates Association at the same time!!
Please help us maintain the USS Ponchatoula Memorial and THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

Four years ago tomorrow, the USS Ponchatoula Shipmates had their Anchor Dedication Ceremony at Collinswood on an absolutely gorgeous spring day.
Barbie Vallot and Swamplight Theater employees set up in the back room of the museum and videotaped/interviewed some of the Shipmates who shared their story/experiences on the USS Ponchatoula for us to share forever. The tape runs in that same back room for all to see when the museum is open.
The Shipmates will be in Ponchatoula for a reunion from April 20 to April 24. We will be having a Celebration at the Memorial/Museum during that time and will post times and dates at a later time.
Please mark your calendar for that week and make plans to come celebrate with us!!
God bless the Shipmates and ALL of our veterans and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!

We hosted the Ponchatoula Junior High Toula Cares Builders Club this morning as they toured our museum and grounds today. Their sponsors are Windy Haist, Vicky Derks and Allison Blache.
Mr.Jim Perrin conducted the tour of the museum and grounds, including the USS Ponchatoula exhibit and the train across the street. The students were attentive and well behaved and seemed to enjoy the tour, taking pictures and asking questions.
We enjoy showing our museum to school groups and people in general. We continue to strive to make it more attractive for anyone who loves local history and desires to learn more.
