Traditionally BIG SEA DAY was a grand end of summer event celebrated on the weekend of the second Saturday of August. Events began on Friday and culminated with a parade through town on Sunday afternoon that generally ended at Jenkinson's pavilion. In this series of photos, circa 1960, that were taken by the family of Cathy Clifton Wardell, the parade began in "West Point Pleasant" at the corner of Arnold and Ocean Road. This was the then location of then Point Pleasant Municipal Building and the West Point Pleasant Post Office was across the street. In 1960 the municipal building contained the fire house, municipal offices, jail and even the "Cut Rate" store on the first floor, Ocean Road side. Many thanks to Cathy Clifton Wardell for sharing these great memoires with us. Hopefully, if you look closely you may be able to recognize old friends or ancestors!

From the early 1900's, a group of friends gather for a picture of their championship baseball team. It is quite a distinguished group, as at least 3 of them would go on to be Mayors of Point Pleasant Beach. Almost all others would operate businesses that were essential to the early growth of the town and become early community leaders. Notably this picture also includes a photo of Arthur Augustus Zimmerman, the well known world champion of Bicycle Racing in the 1890's, winning over a 1000 races worldwide! Zimmerman, along with his father, TA Zimmerman, would purchase and operate the Marion Hotel, built by Larry VanNote and named for his son, Marion (both also in this picture).
