Witness History in the playlet "Lee & Grant at Appomattox Courthouse - the Road to and From"; 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4th in Platte City ----- This playlet places the audience in scene one at the headquarters tents of Grant and Lee on the road to Appomattox. Scene two dramatizes Lee's surrender at the McLean House. The audience then is imaginatively transported to a pasture between the lines of the two armies to witness a little-known conversation that occurred the following day between Grant and Lee. Bill Hankins' photography showcases the people, landscapes and traditions of our region.
"Harvest at Night"; "Sheep Showing (at the county fair)"; "Corn & Thunderheads"; "Horses - a Snow Dance"; and "Buck O'Neil & Friends" --a few titles from the over thirty print and sixty digital photos on display.

We will be open this SATURDAY (Sept. 22) from 10 am - 1pm; THURSDAY EVE Sept. 27 during the Sample the City festival on Main St. (Platte City), and THURS & FRIDAY AFTERNOONS from 1 - 4 pm through Oct 11.

More photos - from Ivan Foley with the Landmark - from our opening night for the photography exhibit "Places and Faces of the Heart" with photographer Bill Hankins. Museum is open weekly on Thurs and Friday 1-4 pm., on Saturday Sept. 22 from 10 am - 1 pm and on Thurs. Evening Sept 27 from 5 - 7:30 pm.

Faces & Places of the Heart--A photographic exhibit by Bill Hankins is on display at the Ben Ferrel Museum at Third and Ferrel Streets in Platte City now through Oct. 11. Bill and his wife, Marcia, greeted visitors on the gallery's opening night Aug. 11. Bill is a retired journalism instructor and is a member of the Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame. He has been a contributor to The Platte County Landmark for nearly 20 years and has published two books of his Landmark work. The display is available for viewing weekly on Thursdays and Fridays from 1-4 and on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 7 he'll have a presentation and book signing event at 7 p.m.

An exhibit of photography by Bill Hankins, “Places & Faces of the Heart, Platte County and its People" will run from AUGUST 11 – OCTOBER 11, 2018, at the Ben Ferrel Museum at 220 Ferrel Street, Platte City, MO. The museum and Hankins will host a gallery showing of the photography on AUG 11 from 5-8 pm; Hankins will discuss his works on SEPT 7 at 7:00 pm. Both events will be held at the museum and are free to the public. Hankins taught photojournalism for over 26 years, has been inducted in the Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame, and, for many years, freelanced photos and feature stories for the Platte County Landmark. In 2006, Hankins compiled many of those stories and accompanying photographs into a hard-cover book entitled Landmark People, Stories from Platte County. Copies will be available at the museum and the Sept. 7 event will include a book signing by Hankins.
The museum is open each Thursday and Friday from 1-4 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 am to 1 pm. Additional Saturday hours may be announced later! Please Check Back!

Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum is a proud participant in the BLUE STAR MUSEUM PROGRAM through Labor Day 2018! The museum is operated by the Platte Co. Historical Society and is located in Platte City, Missouri. The Blue Star Museums program provides free admission to those who are actively serving in the United States Military. Free admission is extended to up to five family members. The military ID holder can be either active duty service or other dependent family member with the appropriate ID card. The active duty member does not have to be present for family members to visit the museum! Please find out more in the attached information or call the museum 816-431-5121

We've added Saturday Hours for "Parties of the Past" and extended the exhibit through the end of July!! Come see a representation of parties from Leap-Year Celebrations to Valentines. This exhibit is family-friendly and includes a display of manufactured candies still available but with origins in the late 1800s - 1940s. We even have some old-fashioned parlor games for visitors to try! We look forward to seeing you this summer!

A Brief History of the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum

The Ben Ferrel Museum, also known as the Krause Mini Mansion, entered the National Historic Register in 1978 and operates today as an historic house museum in Platte City, Missouri. The structure was purchased in 1977 by the Platte County Historical Society and the Platte Purchase Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). A $38,000 bequeath from Ben Ferrel (a Platte County native), passed to these two organizations upon the death of Mr. [ 362 more words ]
