🇹🇹 Trinidad and Tobago became independent 64 years ago today.

But why are Trinidad and Tobago one country in the first place?

The two islands traveled very different colonial paths before Britain joined them administratively in the 19th century. And even then, the country we know today wasn't necessarily destined to become independent on its own.

For several years, Trinidad and Tobago was part of an ambitious experiment to create a federated West Indian nation. When that project unraveled, the road to independence changed dramatically — and quickly.

So for Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence Day, we went a little further back.

Acclaimed Jamaican actor and visual artist Paul Campbell (Third World Cop, Dancehall Queen, Shottas, The Lunatic) delivers a gripping theatrical monologue that offers a glimpse into the life, legacy and controversies surrounding one of the Caribbean's most influential visionaries -- Marcus Garvey.

On the 64th anniversary of Jamaica's independence, Campbell steps off the screen to deliver his first theatrical performance in years.

Presented as part of the Three the Art Way exhibit and event series at Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, featuring Campbell's fine artwork, this intimate evening promises drama, conversation and a window into the minds of both Jamaica's premier leading man and its most internationally impactful thought leader.

A first-generation college graduate herself, Saisha has helped open doors for thousands of students through education, mentorship and programs such as Paving Paths. Her sense of purpose was deeply shaped by her mother, whose faith, sacrifice and care for five children continue to influence the way Saisha shows up for others.

For more than three decades, Joan has cared for others through healthcare, ministry and hands-on service — from providing free care to uninsured South Floridians to leading medical missions across Jamaica. Her inspiration reaches back to Nanny, the Jamaican heroine Joan describes as a warrior whose spirit she recognizes in herself.
