Episode 2 of Plainville: The American Experience. As U.S. transportation evolved, so did the way we moved in and out of town. Travel from the early 1800's to the later 1900's in just 2 minutes with this video about how Plainville became a "Crossroads of Connecticut."

Presented by the Historical Society and Plainville's 250th Committee. Coming in Episode 3: Plainville and the American Spirit of Adventure, which will include our early aviators.

It will air on the Town's page as we lead up to our town wide celebration on September 26th. Enjoy some quick looks at the connections between American history and local history. We begin with the American Revolution.

We are so saddened that Earle Jackson, a dear member and friend of the Historical Society, recently passed away. A legendary PHS athlete, Vietnam veteran, and successful professional, Earle will be greatly missed. He was a thoughtful, generous, and caring man.

We especially loved doing research with and for Earle. Just recently, he really enjoyed the discovery of a direct ancestor who had fought in the Civil War. As a veteran himself, Earle was also Grand Marshall of Plainville's 2023 Memorial Day Parade. We would like to share a video of that day now posted on our YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/

We just concluded our four-program America 250 series, but the Plainville Public Library is offering programs this summer. On July 14th at 6 PM, they are hosting Tories, Spies, Traitors: Divided Loyalty in Revolutionary Connecticut. It will be presented by the CT Museum of Culture and History. Such a meaningful event held yesterday by the Town's America 250 Committee at Veterans Memorial Park. Foster White, a longtime Plainville resident, did a stirring reading of our Declaration of Independence, and the Plainville Choral Society enriched the evening with patriotic songs. It was a notable local commemoration of the first public reading of the Declaration on July 8, 1776.

Everyone is invited to this historic community event at 6 PM tomorrow. Readings are being done throughout the country in commemoration of the first public reading of the Declaration on July 8, 1776. Our local event is being held by the Plainville's America 250 Committee. See their flyer below for more details.

Join us as at this historic cemetery. Many local people from the 1700's and 1800's, including Revolutionary War veterans, are buried here. Travel back in time to learn their stories. We will also be giving small America 250 flags to all who attend. This event is co-sponsored by the Town's America 250 Committee and the Plainville Historical Society. More details are below.

Come learn about local history as we prepare to celebrate our nation's 250th on July 4th!

Plainville's America 250 Committee and the Historical Society invite you to the East Street Burial Ground on Tuesday June 30th. Many Plainville people from the 1700's and 1800's - including Revolutionary War veterans - are buried in this historic cemetery.
