I animated this image which was taken by Bob Lutz (Rathke's uncle) on 9/9/1947 from his office on Wood Street.
The Island Queen, a large 4,000 passenger side-wheel excursion boat, exploded and burned at the wharf, just 30 minutes before passengers were to board (the boat in the upper left corner is trying to keep the Island Queen from sinking); note the open cab fire trucks on Water St. (now Ft. Pitt Blvd.).
