Pittsburgh's own, historian David McCullough, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, gives a talk soon after 9/11/2001. He provides much needed context, for today's generation, to help understand what America is about, and what Americans, our forebears, went through for us so that we can enjoy the freedom we have today. His talk is timeless and inspirational (intro at 2:40 and he starts at 5:00):

"The Jupiter," (28x32) an oil painting I did several years ago for a client. One of two trains that met a Promontory Point in Utah, on May 10, 1869, to create the transcontinental railroad system in America. It can be argued that it changed the country more than the internet. Beef from Chicago could now feed people in California. Produce from the Sun Belt could head north. First envisioned by President Lincoln, the military newline our two shorelines and multiple rivers. Lumber to build homes, medical products, books, EVERYTHING, could eventually cross the country in days...! My concept for the piece was to convey the power of the locomotive and the vastness of the American West...please share (fine art prints available...photographed by Alex Patho Photography):

I did this pastel painting years ago during the time when I drove hundreds of miles to draw caricatures in arts and crafts shows in malls. "Along Interstate-80," 18X24:
