Don't miss this fascinating, FREE panel discussion on Saturday, June 14! Register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/panel-discussion-on-mt-lebanon-women-commissioners-tickets-1373600218229?aff=oddtdtcreator

This Panel Discussion with Mt. Lebanon Women Commissioners will explore what it was like to be a woman commissioner back in the 1980s and 90s when the glass ceiling was broken — and what, if anything, has changed. Despite dozens and dozens of male commissioners, only 9 women have been elected to the Mt. Lebanon Commission. Why? We’ll explore that, too.

OUR PANELISTS
CAROLYN BYHAM (R/3rd Ward, 1984 to 1991)
COLEEN VUONO (D/1st Ward, 1988 to 1991, appointed 2015)
ANNE SWAGER WILSON (D/3rd Ward, appointed 2023; 2024-present)

OUR MODERATOR
Jon Delano Retired TV political analyst, KDKA-TV

When the U.S. entered World War I, 135 Mt. Lebanon men enlisted. Upon leaving for service, each young man was presented with a money belt made by the local Red Cross unit, which operated out of the Ammann Avenue School. Eleven of these young men were wounded, and one, George Hackney, did not return. A plaque dedicated to these men was installed outside Mt. Lebanon Cemetery on October 18, 1919.

We're looking back at past Memorial Day parades in honor of today's South Hills Memorial Day Parade 🇺🇸

Undated: Frank Haller marched in Mt. Lebanon's Memorial Day parade beside his father, Joseph, a World War I veteran.

Undated: Drummers march past outside Pendale Nursery, across from Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

1964: Scout troops march in the parade; photo taken in front of Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church

1972: This photograph features The Mount Lebanon Marching Blue Devils & Rockettes. Band Director Mr. James Carl McIlroy was a very dedicated and musically proficient music educator, notably showcasing his students in a variety of traditional show-style dance routines and patriotic closers featuring the music of the March king, John Philip Sousa.
