✨With the exciting return of Victoria waterlilies to Phipps this summer, we've decided it was finally time to recreate an iconic moment from our history!✨

Back in 1895, this black and white image was captured of a young woman named Angie Means standing on a waterlily in the Victoria Room during a private event. After 131 years and the reassurance of our Waterlily Weigh-Off results, we felt confident in giving this image new life with a present day capture!🤩📸

Have you caught a glimpse, or maybe even a whiff, of these fascinating blooms in the Desert Room?🫣

This plant otherwise known as the Carrion Flower (Stapelia gigantea) is known for its star shaped blooms, maroon markings and rotting or foetid scent. Native to southeastern Africa, these interesting blooms adapt well to dry habitats and use their foul smell to attract fly species for pollination.

Did you know that the beloved Alice in Wonderland story almost went by a different name?🤔🫣

Author Lewis Carroll considered two other titles for this whimsical work before his 1865 publication. The handwritten manuscript took on the original title: Alice's Adventures Underground, which once in production switched to Alice's Hour in Elfland before ultimately becoming the Wonderland we all know and love!🍄🌸
