Happy Holidays!!

For over a decade, part our life in the Quartz Creek Valley has been defined by a quiet, persistent commitment to the next generation. While Jessee and I do not have children of our own, we have always felt a deep, intrinsic calling to inspire the youth to create.

Until very recently, we had no gallery, studio or formal classroom; we were guests at friends' tables or invited friends and children into whatever space we were calling home at the time. We have watched those early lessons become the marrow of who those children are today. Many have matured into incredible artists themselves, pursuing their craft with a seriousness and talent that humbles us.

We have seen firsthand how a seed planted in the wild can grow into a lifelong vocation.

Now, for the first time, we have a dedicated sanctuary to continue this work: Headwaters Studio.

With the 2026 seasonal opening of Terrible Mountain Gallery, we are also opening Headwaters Studio: in part, to provide free, weekly art classes for children throughout the summer of 2026. We want to continue to instill a timeless respect for Mother Earth and our fellow man, using the "canvas" of the wild to teach the methodical, slow beauty of creation.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 specifically for the 2026 season, ensuring that the youth who visit our valley—including underprivileged children who may otherwise never have experienced the majesty of these high-altitude peaks—can discover their own unique creative spirit.

Your Impact:

Every dollar donated remains here in the valley, serving two vital purposes:

* Sustaining the Craft: Contributions directly purchase art supplies—paints, brushes, canvas, clay, pencils, supplies, etc.—required for each child’s artistic journey.

* Supporting the Valley: We ensure our volunteer teachers are nourished with a meal at the Pitkin Hotel, right down the street! Keeping our local economy resilient and supporting our neighbors.

Recognition of Support:

As a gesture of our gratitude, anyone who donates $100 or more will have their name placed on a special Thank You sign within the studio, honoring those who provided the foundation for the 2026 free youth classes.

Help us cultivate the wild artists of tomorrow.

We are still deeply humbled and incredibly grateful that Terrible Mountain Gallery was named Best Art Gallery in Gunnison by Gunnison Country Times! This honor isn't just about the art on the walls—it's a testament to the community that made our vision possible.

When we set out to create this gallery, our goal was never simply to open a business, but to integrate into our community without changing the cherished dynamics of a small town. We wanted to add an attribute to Pitkin that gives back rather than takes, considering our neighbors in every decision.

We aimed to build a place for the community to gather, support, and enjoy art—art that is often inspired by the very reason we all live here: the magnificent natural splendor of the valley.

For us, this endeavor is about preserving a piece of history by restoring this building while always learning from the past to build a better future—a foundation built on balance and stewardship.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Thank you for walking through our doors, engaging with the artists, and supporting our mission to create a place where everyone can come to learn, grow, and appreciate the creative spirit of the Gunnison Valley.

Your support made this happen. Thank you.
