The Johnston Farm and Indian Agency was once the center of activities in the small settlement community of Piqua, Ohio. The site intertwines with Ohio's rich history, having been under five flags. Starting with the establishment of the Pickawillany Village, George Rogers Clark, Anthony Wayne, William Henry Harrison, and culminating with the Civil War ....Camp Piqua in 1862.

☘Celtic Festival, according to the Johnston House cats: 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

Mary: “I greeted visitors, supervised operations, and then retired for seventeen hours. Leadership is exhausting.”
Nub: “There were bagpipes.”
Mary: “Yes.”
Nub: “There were drums.”
Mary: “Also yes.”
Nub: “There were a thousand humans and REALLY big wolfhounds!”🙀
Mary: “Correct.”
Nub: “I hid.”
Mary: “A wise decision, though I recommend napping. It's more effectual.”

Both cats would like to thank everyone who came out to enjoy music, dancing, history, and general merriment at the Johnston Farm Celtic Festival. They would also like everyone to please stop making loud noises for at least three business days.

We’ve had quite a few posts today, but Lead Interpreter Marla Fair just had to add one more! 💖

Earlier this week, Marla put out a call for volunteer help to tackle the long list of jobs still needing done before the Celtic Heritage Festival ☘ —and our volunteers absolutely came through.

Among the many tasks completed were painting park benches, weeding and tidying the gardens, laying bricks around the garden beds, and cleaning both the springhouse and the Johnston House. Everyone arrived ready to work—some even bringing their own tools!🔨

Marla would like to give a BIG shout-out and heartfelt thanks to Mandy Piascik, Linda Smith, Linda’s husband and granddaughter and Deb Steele as well as summer assistant Mariah Killian and Site Director Ben Richard, who did a terrific job delivering our tomahawk target! 🎯

It takes a great many hands to prepare the farm for a major event like this, and we are deeply grateful for every hour of help given.

(And yes… the cats 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛ slept through the entire thing. As usual. LOL.)

Thank you, everyone—we’re almost ready for the 3rd Annual Celtic Heritage Festival at the Johnston Farm!
