Horne Creek Farm Once the Hauser family farm, Horne Creek enables visitors to experience farm life in North Carolina'

Once the Hauser family farm, Horne Creek enables visitors to experience farm life in North Carolina's northwestern Piedmont circa 1900. The site features the family's original farm house, a to***co curing barn, a corn crib, adjacent fields under cultivation, and even a heritage apple orchard. Through programs ranging from old fashioned ice cream socials to an annual corn shucking frolic, Horne Creek Living Historical Farm provides a unique opportunity to learn about our rural past. Horne Creek Living Historical Farm is a working farm with livestock, poultry, dogs and cats. No pets other than service animals are allowed on the grounds.

October 17th is a big day for our Apple Orchard. Events at the Orchard Building do not require admission to the Frolic.

Remember, tomorrow is the 33rd Annual Cornshucking Frolic at Horne Creek Farm State Historic Site.

It will be another great day to visit Horne Creek Farm and purchase some heirloom apple trees grafted from varieties found in our Southern Heritage Apple Orchard!

In addition to trees, we will offer a nice selection of heirloom apples to purchase.

The sale will be held outside the Orchard Building at 917 Hauser Road, Pinnacle, NC 27043 on Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

A new event on Saturday will let you taste a variety of unique heirloom apples picked from our orchard. Apple tasting requires a ticket purchased at the orchard building. Tickets are $10 per session. Apple Tastings will occur at 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, 1:15, 2:15, and 3:15.

Horne Creek's Southern Heritage Apple Orchard has plenty of apple varieties to choose from -- Blacktwig, Jonalicious, Virginia Beauty, and multiple selections from the Limbertwig family are just a few available to purchase. Jason Bowen, the site’s horticulturist, will be available to provide information on what varieties are good for cooking, making apple butter, or c***r, etc. We know you’re sure to find something you like!

This program is sponsored by the site’s nonprofit, North Carolina Living Historical Farm Committee, Inc. Money generated from the sale of the apple trees will help with the upkeep of the Southern Heritage Apple Orchard.

So, make plans now to come out to our apple event and help preserve an integral part of the South's agricultural heritage.

Just a few days to go! The 33rd Annual Cornshucking Frolic returns on October 17th at Horne Creek Farm State Historic Site. Fall has arrived, and we are looking forward to seeing you at the event.

Our biggest event of the year is coming up soon! Mark your calendars now for the 33rd Annual Cornshucking Frolic on Saturday, October 17th, from 10 am to 5 pm. The day will highlight history, heritage crafts, music, great food, and a whole lot of fun! The North Carolina Living Historical Farm Committee, Inc. sponsors and organizes this event.

Admission fees are as follows:
Adults: $8.00, Children 6 - 12: $5.00, & Children 5 & Under: Free.

Heritage demonstrations and activities are sure to please every family member, from young to old. Quilting, basket weaving, spinning, a gristmill demonstration, wood working, information on heirloom apples, cooking demonstrations, plowing, apple butter & sorghum syrup demonstrations, exhibitions of quilts and antique farm equipment, plus much more.

What would the day be without some great food? We've got that covered too! Food vendors will have BBQ, chicken stew, ham biscuits, hotdogs, donuts, and more. The site welcomes a new food vendor this year: The Donut Shark from East Bend.

Bring a lawn chair and kick back and listen the sounds of some wonderfully talented music groups:

CandelFirth will be performing at the Visitor Center throughout the day.

Shop in the giftshop of the Horne Creek Farm Visitor Center. A wide array of items, such as t-shirts, canned jams and jellies, books, jewelry, pillows, and children's games are available to purchase. In the Hauser orchard, candles, elderberry syrup, pottery, soap, lip balm, and artwork are just a few of the items our vendors have for sale. At the Southern Heritage Apple Orchard Building, purchase an heirloom apple tree grafted from those grown by Horne Creek. By getting these varieties back in the public forum, it prevents them from going extinct. Planting one of these trees is a great way to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of our country.

We’re celebrating spring with a special tea, perfect for sharing with your mother, daughter, granddaughter, or best friend. Spaces are still available for our Spring Victorian Tea on April 25th, 2026, from 2:00 pm -4:00 pm at Horne Creek Farm State Historic Site.

Linger in comfort while we treat you to an afternoon of satisfying savory bites, baked goods, and sweet treats, along with a lovely spot of tea!

Spend the time visiting with dear friends or making new ones as we partake in the tradition of High Tea. Bring your laughter and unravel the history, sample the flavors, and experience an afternoon of pure enjoyment while celebrating the beauty of Spring!

Festive Tea attire is encouraged but not necessary. A variety of accessories will be available to purchase at the tea.

This event is sponsored by the site's non-profit, the North Carolina Living Historical Farm Committee. Pre-Registration is required.
