Friends of President Polk's Birthplace We are a community of people who visit and support the James K. Polk site. No staff are associated w The James K.

Polk State Historic site is the birthplace of our 11th United States president and is the only presidential birthplace in North Carolina. The Polk site is also the only NC Historic Site in the Charlotte region. It keeps history alive for thousands of families, schoolchildren and individuals each year. The site hosts living history events, re-enactments, celebrations, summer camps for children, 18th century cooking demonstrations and volunteer activities. Today is Giving Tuesday!

Our non-profit support group, Friends of President Polk's Birthplace, Inc., helps the site achieve educational and volunteer needs. Their work makes it so that field trips and tours are engaging, relevant and meaningful. They also make it possible for us to host local historians who talk about the history of enslavement, food, textiles in the Carolina backcountry.
