Today is Giving Tuesday!

Our non-profit support group, Friends of President Polk's Birthplace, Inc., helps the site achieve educational and volunteer needs. Their work makes it so that field trips and tours are engaging, relevant and meaningful. They also make it possible for us to host local historians who talk about the history of enslavement, food, textiles in the Carolina backcountry.

Please consider supporting them today as you donate to groups and institutions that make a difference.

Shout out from UNC Charlotte!

Pineville has a claim to fame that few other American cities share - it was the birthplace of a future U.S. president. James K. Polk, the country’s 11th president, was born on November 2, 1795 in a log cabin in the part of Mecklenburg County that is now Pineville. He and his family lived there until he was 11 years old, when they moved to Tennessee. Today, the President James K. Polk State Historic Site sits on 21 of the original 150 acres owned by Polk’s father, and includes a number of historic cabins from the early 1800s and a museum/visitor's center.
