We tell the story as an active partner, fundraiser and steward, providing financial resources to projects of the program areas of the South Dakota State Historical Society: archaeology, archives, historic preservation, museum, and research and publishing. Today, we join countless South Dakotans in remembering T. Denny Sanford and the extraordinary legacy of generosity he leaves behind.

His $500,000 matching gift to the South Dakota Historical Society Foundation for the State Museum renovation remains the largest single gift our campaign has received to date. That remarkable investment inspired others to give and is helping preserve and share South Dakota's story for generations to come.

We were honored to invite Mr. Sanford to celebrate the opening of our first three museum exhibits on July 1. While his health prevented him from attending, his generosity is woven into the museum's future.

People who open both their hearts and their wallets change lives. They strengthen nonprofits, enrich communities, and create opportunities that endure far beyond their lifetime.
