EXCERPT FROM 6/27/2021 POST: I want to talk to Kristin Nama about having a painting contest this year ending around Christmas with the theme of the competition Paintings of Pierce City in the winters we had in my youth. A Christmas theme or winter snow theme is what I'm thinking. I will give a $500 prize to the winner. the winner can be announced at the annual Christmas Parade.
The abilities of the entries, the originality, and the age of the artist will be factors. I am also considering a junior prize of $250 for youth entries. Is any of my Pierce City friends have ideas for improvement let me know. At the appropriate time I will ask Paul at the Leader Journal to give coverage so all will know. If Kristin is on board, Ill probably announce the contest in mid August.

Most of you are aware I have moved my military museum to the old Lawrence County Bank space. I am really excited as its more space and I've worked hard to make it a pleasant visit. I am readying a special day to honor Gene Kluck and Bill Kahre as world war 2 veterans. Also with great honor and pleasure, I announce I have received permission to honor William Gasser as the first and only world war 1 veteran to be honored in the museum.

Just today Larry Gasser gave me permission to honor his father. Ed Gasser, my friend, classmate and wonderful person, gave me a picture of his father in uniform. I only honor those who served who the family has given me permission to honor. If you wonder why I'm not honoring someone, check the family, as they may have refused permission.

The new museum is dedicated to General Raupp of Pierce City and there is a special place in the museum for him. I also have a special place for Colonel Ben Layton my dear friend, supporter of the museum and the second highest ranking person born and raised in Pierce City.

Lastly, the museum is a labor of love for me, but it does not compete in any way with our city museum. A trip to the city museum will find you a much larger selection of Pierce City history. Take a Saturday and visit both museums.
