Yes! I am back in the shop. This month I will work on glass weaving. I just finished this lamp shade this morning.

Took four fires.
1) Tack the stringers to the strips.
2) Slump the strips using a medium weaving mold.
3) After assembling the piece I Tack fused.
I4) Next draped over a 7” as vase mold.

I used Bullseye Teal and Vanilla opaque glass.

This week I worked in my shop even though it was 104 degrees. I couldn’t wait anymore. I made two lamps for my nightstands.

I cut
2 8.5” squares vanilla glass
2 8.5” squares clear glass

I put the vanilla on top the clears. I then added blue, green, black and white stringers randomly.

I full fused and then draped over a 7” tall stainless steel molds. The recipes are in the pictures below.

Fall is almost here in Phoenix Arizona, that means it is less than 100•F. I am now staring to work in my very warm workshop. Stay tuned for my posts real soon. I have so many ideas and can’t wait to get to work.

Happy May! Here is a flower piece that I really enjoyed creating. The pics are included below so you can see the progress over a few weeks. The butterflies were made using the “freeze and fuse” method. Some petals were made be slicing color bars with my ring saw.

When I start a floral piece I have no idea how it will evolve. It’s a fun journey.

I have learned (relearned) two valuable fusing lessons this past week…. Too much rushing or maybe complacency.

1) Don’t rush at any step. This is a piece of art not a speed competition.

2) Don’t skip any step no matter how small it is.

Here is my experience last week with pics. Read captions…. You may relate with them if you are a fellow fuser.

Also layout the various colors in order before starting the project. It goes a lot smoother and easier.

I will cut off the one piece that fell and still drape it. Maybe next week.

Glass weaving is a highly rewarding craft. This piece was draped over a brick covered with fiber cloth. Assembling it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The steps are outlined in the accompanying photographs below. It will undoubtedly be a great addition for my July 4th celebration.
