Dear Sunnyslope Friends,

We need your help this Thursday.

After months of research, community outreach, and overwhelming neighborhood support, Acacia Library is taking another important step toward becoming a designated historic property.

The Phoenix Planning Commission will consider the Historic Preservation Overlay request for Acacia Library on:

Thursday, August 6, 2026
6:00 PM
Phoenix City Council Chambers
200 W. Jefferson Street
Phoenix, AZ

This hearing is a critical step before the request moves to the Phoenix City Council for final consideration. Your attendance will demonstrate that our community values preserving one of Sunnyslope's most recognizable landmarks.

Designed by renowned Arizona architect Bennie Gonzales and opened in 1969, Acacia Library has served generations of Sunnyslope families. It has been a place to discover books, attend programs, study, connect with neighbors, and build lifelong memories. Historic designation will help ensure this architectural and community landmark is protected for future generations through the City's Historic Preservation program.

How You Can Help
Attend the Planning Commission meeting in person.
If you wish, speak during public comment and share why Acacia Library is important to you.
Wear Sunnyslope Historical Society apparel or your favorite Sunnyslope shirt to show community pride.
Invite your friends, neighbors, and family members to join you.

Every person in the audience sends a powerful message that Sunnyslope cares about its history and believes Acacia Library deserves permanent protection.

Thank you for standing with us as we work to preserve this treasured community landmark. Together, we can ensure that future generations will continue to enjoy and appreciate Acacia Library as an important part of Phoenix and Sunnyslope history.

We hope to see you Thursday evening!
