Eli traditional/digital artist looking to strive towards any art related Buisness opportunities ♥️

03/02/2023

This (March 4, 2022), join us with visual artist Carolina Aranibar-Fernandez () at 6 pm in Dorrance Sculpture Garden for a participatory performance of her piece, Braiding Minerals, where participants will braid cotton dyed in a palette of colors inspired by open pit copper mines. The piece consists of braiding the dyed cotton fabric together and attaching it to the existing landscape outside the Museum. The act of braiding is practiced in many traditions to prevent negative energy from entering the body as a form of healing. Carolina's performance will address issues of the extraction of natural resources/minerals and the effects of this on displacement and land—created in resonance to the special exhibition currently on view, Landscapes of Extraction (closing THIS SUNDAY!).

Reserve your tickets in advance at phxart.org/tickets. ✨

About the artist: Carolina Aranibar-Fernandez was born and raised in La Paz, Bolivia, and currently lives and works in Arizona. Carolina’s practice addresses concerns of displacement, privatization of land, exploitation on natural resources, environmental issues, and the invisible-exploited labor that supplies global trade.

Aranibar-Fernandez’s recent work has been exhibited at the National Museum of Art in Bolivia, at the MX/US border, in New York, in Qatar, and in Nepal. The award-winning artist received an M.F.A from Virginia Commonwealth University and a B.F.A from the Kansas City Art Institute.
